POLIT
Hipolito Impat Tangonan
"Polit" was the second son of Macario Tangonan (first patriarch) and Juliana Madamba.
This must have been taken shortly after arriving in Hawaii in 1929. The handwritten caption was his own. This photo is in the possession of his son Dionisio Tangonan. One other existing photograph of Hipolito was with his daughter Irene
Tangonan.
Notice the thin and high-bridge nose, not a common trait of most Filipinos. It is a prized physical trait. It was said that this was a trait of the Tangonans of old. The wide forehead is also a Tangonan "trademark."

Polit's Funeral - 1956
At the entrance of the Sto. Cristo Milagroso Church in Sinait, Ilocos Sur, Philippines.
From L-R: Sister Nicolasa (Colasa), Unknown, Unknown, Sons Emilio(Milio), Artemio (Temio), Urbano (Banong) and the priest officiating the last rites. Absent from the picture were son Dionisio (Dion) and daugther Irene (Ining), who did not make
it on time, and spouse Basilia, who was probably to weak to attend the funeral.
Note the practice then when the grieving family member, even the men, have to wear a black veil/cloth on their heads. The unknown woman could be one of the sisters of Polit, possibly Filomena (Filomen) or Cesaria (Sayyang). Likewise, the
unknown man could be the brother of Polit, possibly Francisco (Ikko) or Arsenio (Arsen).
Based on superstitious belief of the Filipinos, the young children of the family were hoisted over the casket before the actual burial. This practice persist even to this day.
