BANONG AND CHARING WEDDING

Banong with Best man
Waiting for the bride outside the church.

Most family members assumed that they were married in one of the churches in Ilocos Sur, possibly Vigan or Bantay, the hometown of the bride. The church's facade did not match any of the Ilocos Sur churches. The church could have been renovated perhaps?

This is actually the Baguio Cathedral in Baguio City. This information is provided by Rufino Carnate Tangonan.

Exchanging wedding vows

Rosario Portugal Paz
&
Urbano Impelido Tangonan

On their wedding day, June 1951. Both wore their usual half-smiles on this photo but they must have been very happy.
Charing owned jewelries of all sorts, owing to her father being a goldsmith. On this day, she didn't wear a single piece, except the one Banong pledged to her: the wedding ring.

Banong & Charing's Wedding Portrait
This photo took a long way home, along with several other photos. For many years, the photos was in the care of Artemio Tangonan's Family. It was returned for safekeeping by Naomi (Artemio's daughter) to Chito (Urbano's son).

Banong & Charing's Wedding Entourage
On the far back are Nicolasa Tangonan (the groom's aunt) and Basilia Impelido Tangonan (the groom's mother). On the groom's left was then future Philippine president Diosdado Macapagal. He was one of the principal sponsors. Other principal sponsors include Ilocos Sur Governor Floro Crisologo and a congressman Singson although they couldn't be identified on this photo

Can you identify the other guests? Please send email to chito_loida@tangonan.com
